The preparation of fiber endface includes stripping, cleaning and cutting. Qualified fiber endface is necessary for fusion splicing, and the quality of endface directly affects the quality of fusion splicing.
1. Fiber coating layer stripping
Fiber coating layer stripping, to master the flat, stable, fast three words stripping method. Flat", that is, hold the fiber to be flat. The left thumb and index finger pinch the fiber, so that it becomes horizontal, the length of the exposed 5cm shall prevail, the remaining fiber in the ring finger, the little finger between the natural bend, to increase the strength to prevent slippage. Stable", that is, the stripping pliers to hold a steady. Fast" that is, stripping fiber to be fast, stripping pliers should be vertical to the fiber, tilted inward to a certain angle, and then gently jammed with the jaws of the fiber, the right hand then force, along the fiber axially pushed out, the whole process should be natural and smooth, in one go.
2. Bare fiber cleaning
Bare fiber cleaning, should be operated in the following two steps:
(1) Observe whether the coating layer of the stripped part of the fiber is completely stripped, if there is residue, should be stripped again. If there is a very small amount of coating layer that is not easy to peel off, use a cotton ball with an appropriate amount of alcohol, while dipping, while gradually wiping.
(2) the cotton torn into a flat level of the fan-shaped block, dip a little alcohol (to two fingers pinch each other without spillage is appropriate), folded into a "V" shape, clamped to strip the fiber, along the fiber axial wipe, and strive for a success, a cotton used 2 ~ 3 times to be replaced in a timely manner, each time to use a different part of the cotton and level, so as to improve the utilization of cotton, but also to prevent the pollution of the probe fiber twice.
3. Cutting of bare fiber
Bare fiber cutting is the most critical part of the fiber end preparation, precision, excellent cutting knife is the basis, and strict, scientific operation specifications are guaranteed.
(1) the choice of cutting knife.
Cutter has a manual (such as the Japanese CT-07 cutter) and electric (such as Ericsson FSU-925) two. The former is simple to operate, reliable performance, with the operator's level of improvement, cutting efficiency and quality can be significantly improved, and the requirement of bare fiber is shorter, but the cutter requires a higher environmental temperature difference. The latter has higher cutting quality and is suitable for operation under cold conditions in the field, but the operation is more complicated, the working speed is constant and requires a longer bare fiber. Skilled operators in room temperature for fast fiber optic cable splicing or rescue, the use of manual cutter is appropriate; conversely beginners or in the field under colder conditions, the use of electric cutter is better.
(2) operation specification
Operators should be specially trained to master the essentials of action and operating specifications. First of all, clean the cutting knife and adjust the position of the cutting knife, the placement of the knife to be smooth, cutting, the action should be natural, smooth, do not heavy, do not rush, to avoid broken fiber, bevel, burr and cracks and other bad end of the production. In addition, learn to "play the piano", reasonable distribution and use of their right fingers, so that it corresponds to the specific parts of the incision, coordination, to improve the speed and quality of cutting.
(3) Beware of end-face contamination
Heat shrinkable sleeving should be put in before peeling and covering, strictly forbidden to put in after end preparation. The time of cleaning, cutting and fusing of bare fiber should be closely articulated, not too long interval, especially to the prepared end face, do not put in the air. Move gently to prevent rubbing with other objects. In the jointing should be based on the environment, the cutting knife "V" groove, pressure plate, knife edge cleaning, to prevent end contamination.
