What is Fiber Optic Splitter?

A fiber-optic splitter, also known as a beam splitter, is based on a quartz substrate of an integrated waveguide optical power distribution device, similar to a coaxial cable transmission system. The optical network system uses an optical signal coupled to the branch distribution. The fiber optic splitter is one of the most important passive devices in the optical fiber link. It is an optical fiber tandem device with many input and output terminals, especially applicable to a passive optical network (EPON, GPON, BPON, FTTX, FTTH etc.) to connect the main distribution frame and the terminal equipment and to branch the optical signal.

What Are Features Of Optical Splitter?

Low insertion loss

Our products are carefully designed to minimize insertion loss. By reducing insertion loss, we ensure efficient and reliable signal transmission, thereby improving network performance.

Ease of installation

Products are designed with features that simplify installation procedures and save time and effort. Whether it's our fiber optic patch cords, connectors or adapters, they are easy to install.

Ease of use

Our products are designed with user convenience in mind. Even for individuals with minimal technical expertise. Ease of handling and connection promotes smooth and efficient operation.

Working Principle of Fiber Splitters:
The working principle of fiber splitters involves the redistribution of optical power between the output fibers, ensuring an equal division of the signal strength. Let's take a closer look at the working principles of fused fiber splitters and PLC splitters.
1 Fused Fiber Splitters:
In a fused fiber splitter, the input fiber is aligned with the fused region, which causes the optical power to be divided between the output fibers. The tapering process gradually guides the light from the input fiber to the output fibers, resulting in a proportional split of the signal.
2. PLC Splitters:
PLC splitters work based on the principle of waveguide optics. The input fiber is aligned with the waveguide structure on the chip, which splits the optical power into multiple output fibers. The waveguide design ensures precise and consistent power division, enabling accurate splitting ratios.

The two most common types of fiber optic splitters are FBT (Fused Biconical Taper) and PLC (Planar Lightwave Circuit) splitters:

The FBT splitter offers low cost, common materials (quartz substrate, stainless steel, fiber, hot dorm, GEL), and an adjustable splitting ratio. However, its losses are wavelength-dependent and it offers poor spectral uniformity, cannot ensure uniform spectroscopy, and is temperature sensitive.

PLC splitter: Losses are not sensitive to the wavelength, spectral uniformity is higher and it is more compact and has lower cost with greater degrees of splitting. However, device fabrication process is more complex.

Fiber optic splitters come in different shapes and form factors, depending on the specific application and installation requirements. The most common shapes for fiber optic splitters include:
Box-type Splitter:

This is a type of splitter that is housed in a rectangular box, typically made of plastic or metal. The box contains the splitter components and is designed to be mounted on a wall or placed in a rack or cabinet.

Module-type Splitter:

This is a type of splitter that is designed to be installed inside a fiber optic patch panel or enclosure. The splitter components are contained in a module that can be easily inserted or removed from the patch panel or enclosure.

Bare fiber Splitter:

This is a type of splitter that does not have an outer protective housing or enclosure. Instead, the splitter components are exposed and are typically spliced directly onto the incoming and outgoing fiber optic cables.

Rack-mount Splitter:

This is a type of splitter that is designed to be installed in a standard 19-inch equipment rack. The splitter components are housed in a metal enclosure that can be easily mounted in the rack along with other networking equipment.

Tube-type Splitter:

This is a type of splitter that is housed in a cylindrical tube, typically made of plastic or metal. The tube contains the splitter components and is designed to be mounted on a wall or placed in a splice tray.
