what is fiber optic connector?

An optical fiber connector is a device that is used to connect optical fibers, allowing for efficient transmission of light signals. It provides a faster and easier way to connect and disconnect fibers compared to splicing, which involves permanently joining the fiber ends.

They come in various types like SC, LC, ST, and MTP, each designed for specific applications. In all, about 100 different types of fiber optic connectors have been introduced to the market.

What are features of optical connector?

Low insertion loss

Our products are carefully designed to minimize insertion loss. By reducing insertion loss, we ensure efficient and reliable signal transmission, thereby improving network performance.

Ease of installation

Products are designed with features that simplify installation procedures and save time and effort. Whether it's our fiber optic patch cords, connectors or adapters, they are easy to install.

Ease of use

Our products are designed with user convenience in mind. Even for individuals with minimal technical expertise. Ease of handling and connection promotes smooth and efficient operation.

Yingfeng produces the following fiber optic connector types, such as SC, LC, FC, ST, E2000, MPO, MTRJ, MU and other fiber optic connectors. Fiber optic connectors with these types of connectors are typically used in a variety of applications including data centers, telecommunication facilities, and enterprise networks.

SC Connectors
The SC fiber optic connector was the first connector to comply with the TIA-568 standard, and is a snap-on connector that can be locked with a simple push-pull motion. Since the connector body is "square", "SC" stands for "Square Connector". It utilizes a 2.5mm ferrule and is twice the size of the previous LC connector. SC fiber optic connectors are ideally suited for datacom and telecom applications, including point-to-point and passive fiber optic networks. Due to its superior performance, the fiber optic SC connector is still the second most common connector used in conformal applications.

LC Connectors
Lucent Connectors (LC) are SFF (small form factor) connectors with a 1.25 mm ferrule. The small footprint design made these fiber optic connectors popular for data communications and made them more suitable for high density applications. Today, many people tend to move towards efficient cabling using LC fiber optic connectors. LC fiber optic connectors are considered the most commonly used connectors today.

FC Connectors
"FC" stands for ferrule connector. FC fiber optic connectors were the first fiber optic connectors to use ceramic inserts. Unlike plastic-bodied SC and LC connectors, it uses a circular screw-type fitting made of nickel-plated or stainless steel. FC fiber optic connector ends rely on an alignment key for proper insertion, and then a threaded clevis is used to fasten them into the adapter/jack. Despite being more complex to manufacture and install, FC connectors still offer precision instruments such as OTDRs as well as single-mode fiber options. It was originally used in datacom and telecom applications, but has been used less since the introduction of SC and LC fiber optic connectors. In recent years, the use of both ST and FC connectors has declined.

ST Connectors
Shortly after the introduction of the FC type, AT&T created and licensed the ST (straight tip) fiber optic connector. ST fiber optic connectors hold the fiber in place with a ceramic, spring-loaded 2.5 mm ferrule that is held in place by a semi-twisted bayonet mount. They are commonly used in long and short-haul applications such as campus and building multimode fiber applications, enterprise network environments, and military applications.

E2000 Connectors
The E2000 connector is a push-pull coupling mechanism with an automatic metal light shield in the connector for dust and laser beam protection. The E2000 fiber optic connector has a one-piece design for easy and fast termination, high security and high power.

MPO Fiber Optic Connectors
Unlike the previous two types of fiber optic connectors, the MTP/MPO fiber optic connector is a multi-fiber connector and is larger than the others, combining 12 to 24 fibers in a single rectangular ferrule. It is commonly used for 40G and 100G high bandwidth optical parallel connections. MPO fiber optic connectors are complicated by bonding and bonding, male and female issues.

MTRJ Connectors
The Mechanical Transmission Registered Jack (MT-RJ) connector is a duplex connector that uses pins for alignment and is available in both male and female versions. Constructed with a plastic shell, precise alignment is achieved with a metal guide pin and plastic ferrule. The MT-RJ connector is slightly smaller than a standard phone jack, making it easier to connect and disconnect. In addition, MT-RJ fiber optic connectors provide lower termination costs and higher density for electronic equipment and cable management hardware than other fiber optic terminations.

MU Connectors
Like a miniature SC with a 1.25mm ferrule. MU fiber optic connectors feature a simple push-pull design and a compact miniature body for compact multiple fiber optic connectors and a self-retaining mechanism for backplane applications.

Ferrule

This is a thin structure (often cylindrical) that actually holds the glass fiber. It has a hollowed-out center that forms a tight grip on the fiber. Ferrules are usually made from ceramic, metal, or high-quality plastic, and typically will hold one strand of fiber.

Connector Body

This is a plastic or metal structure that holds the ferrule and attaches to the jacket and strengthens members of the fiber cable itself.

Coupling Mechanism

This is a part of the connector body that holds the connector in place when it gets attached to another device (a switch, NIC, bulkhead coupler, etc.). It may be a latch clip, a bayonet-style nut, or similar device.
