There are some differences between the connection methods of multi-mode fiber adapters and single-mode fiber adapters.

Multimode fiber optic adapters are generally used to connect multimode fiber optic devices, which are connected in the same way as singlemode fiber optic adapters. The interface end face of the multimode fiber adapter is round, usually gray, and the diameter of its fiber core is 50 or 62.5 microns. When connecting, you need to use the corresponding multimode fiber patch cord to insert the multimode fiber adapter into the port of the multimode fiber optic device to achieve data transmission.

Whereas, single-mode fiber optic adapters are used to connect single-mode fiber optic devices. The interface end face of the single-mode fiber optic adapter is square, usually blue, and the diameter of its fiber core is only about 9 microns. When connecting, you need to use the corresponding single-mode fiber patch cord to insert the single-mode fiber adapter into the port of the single-mode fiber optic device to achieve data transmission.

It should be noted that multi-mode fiber adapters and single-mode fiber adapters cannot be directly connected to each other because they have different diameters of the inner core of the fiber, which will lead to the loss of optical signal transmission. If you need to connect a multi-mode fiber optic device to a single-mode fiber optic device, you need to use a fiber optic converter to convert a multi-mode fiber optic signal to a single-mode fiber optic signal, or a single-mode fiber optic signal to a multi-mode fiber optic signal.
