General steps for integrated cabling projects

Feb 17, 2022

Integrated cabling is a modular and highly flexible channel for the transmission of information within a building or between building groups.   In practice there are certain rules to be followed in cabling work.   This rule is not only reflected in the relevant norms and standards to be followed in the implementation of structured cabling projects, but also in the many experiences and lessons learned in the project.

The general steps in the engineering application of integrated cabling projects are: research - scheme design - civil construction - technical installation - information point testing - documentation - maintenance.

(1) Research: the main task is to ask customers about their network needs, survey the building on site, go to settle the amount of wire, the number of information sockets and the positioning and number of cabinets according to the building plan and other information, and make a comprehensive cabling research report.

(2) Cabling scheme design: make a budget table for cabling materials and a schedule for project progress according to the data from the preliminary survey.

(3) Civil construction: coordinate the construction team to negotiate with the owner on duties and propose wiring permits, mainly for drilling, alignment, positioning of information sockets, positioning of cabinets and making line markings.

(4) Technical installation: mainly playing information modules, playing wiring frames and internal installation of cabinets.

(5) Information point testing: general testing, using a 12-point tester, single person can be carried out, more efficient, mainly testing the through and through situation, can print out a detailed test report.

(6) Document management: eventually to provide to the customer's completion report (the actual amount of material table, test reports, floor (building group) wiring table, to provide a data basis for future maintenance.

(7) Maintenance: rapid response when lines fail.

Integrated cabling It enables voice, data, image equipment and switching equipment to be connected to each other as well as to other information management systems, and it also enables these to be connected to the outside.   It also includes all cables and associated connection components between the connection points of the building's external network or telecommunications lines and the application system equipment.   The integrated cabling system consists of different series and sizes of components, including: transmission media, associated connection hardware (e.g. patch panels, connectors, sockets, plugs, adapters) and electrical protection equipment.   These components can be used to build various subsystems, all of which have their own specific purpose.
