Fiber optic transceiver classification

1. Classification according to the nature of optical fiber 

 Single-mode fiber optic transceiver: transmission distance from 20 km to 120 km 

 Multimode fiber optic transceiver: transmission distance 2 km to 5 km 

 Such as 5 km fiber optic transceiver transmit power: generally between -20 ~ -14db, receive sensitivity of -30db, using 1310nm wavelength;  and 120 km fiber optic transceiver transmit power mostly between -5 ~ 0dB, receive sensitivity of -38dB, using 1550nm wavelength. 

 

2.  According to the working level/rate classification 

100M Ethernet fiber optic transceiver: working in the physical layer 

10/100M Adaptive Ethernet fiber optic transceiver: working in the data link layer 

According to the working level/rate, it can be divided into single 10M, 100M fiber transceiver, 10/100M adaptive fiber transceiver and 1000M fiber transceiver.  The single 10M and 100M transceiver products work at the physical layer, and the transceiver products working at this layer forward data on a bit-by-bit basis.  This forwarding method has the advantages of fast forwarding speed, high permeability and low latency, and is suitable for application on links with fixed rates, while doing better in terms of compatibility and stability because such devices do not have a self-negotiation process before normal communication.
