The 1x2 splitter fiber combines two or more optical fibers and processes them using a tapering machine, which melts and stretches the fibers while continuously monitoring the splitting ratio. Once the desired splitting ratio is achieved, the melting and stretching process is terminated, retaining one end of the fiber as the input, while the other end serves as the multiple output.
Due to the limitations of the tapering process, which can only produce configurations up to 1x4 at a time, larger configurations require multiple 1x2 connections. The finished splitter is then packaged in a dedicated splitter box for protection and ease of handling.
