TSTT Commits To Deploying More Fiber To Trinidad And Tobago

Feb 03, 2023

The CEO of the Trinidad and Tobago Telecommunications Services Company (TSTTP) has announced a major investment for fiber optic deployment in the country.

Lisa Agard said her company recently approved an investment of more than TRY 120 million (approximately $17.7 million) to accelerate the deployment of fiber optic infrastructure in Trinidad and Tobago over the next 18 months.

TSTT is the largest provider of communications solutions for residential and commercial markets in the United States. Its products are designed around its core IP-based infrastructure and are marketed under the bmobile brand.

Agard assured her audience in a speech prior to the presentation of the Huawei IdeaHub at a school in northern Tobago that TSTT will build on its existing fiber infrastructure, with fiber passing through an additional 3,000 homes.

Referring specifically to Tobago, she said that last year TSTT passed more than 3,200 homes, bringing the total number of homes connected via fiber in Tobago to more than 15,000.

She added that the additional expansion will bring the company's total fiber investment in Tobago over the past few years to more than $50 million ($7.4 million).

"When completed, we will have fiber throughout the length and breadth of Tobago; 95 percent of the island will be covered," she was quoted as saying by Trinidad and Tobago Newsday. She added that this is unmatched by any other service provider in Tobago.
