Fiber optic cables are cables specifically designed to transmit optical signals and do not contain copper conductors. Mainly using optical fiber as the transmission medium, it is made of high-purity glass or plastic material for transmitting optical signals. The main structure of a fiber optic cable consists of a fiber optic core, a cladding and an outer jacket.

In traditional copper cables, electrical signals are transmitted through copper wires, while fiber optic cables use optical fibers as the transmission medium, using the characteristics of light for signal transmission. Optical fiber can transmit optical signals along the core through the internal light total reflection phenomenon, avoiding the electromagnetic interference and attenuation problems of electrical signals, and has the advantages of high speed, long distance transmission and anti-interference.

However, some fiber optic cables can also contain copper conductors that are not used for signal transmission but for other functions such as power supply or ground connections. This type of fiber optic cable is known as a hybrid fiber optic cable, where one part of the cable is copper conductors used for power or ground and the other part is fiber optics used for optical signal transmission.
In practice, it is important to select the type and construction of fiber optic cable that suits the needs.
