1. Optical fiber manufacturing:
Nowadays, the main optical fiber manufacturing methods are: in-tube CVD (chemical vapor deposition), in-rod CVD, PCVD (plasma chemical vapor deposition) and VAD (axial vapor deposition).
2. Attenuation of optical fiber:
The main factors that contribute to fiber attenuation are: intrinsic, bending, extrusion, impurities, inhomogeneities and docking. _Intrinsic: is the inherent loss of the fiber, including: Rayleigh scattering, inherent absorption, etc.
Bending: When the fiber is bent, some of the light inside the fiber will be lost due to scattering, resulting in loss. Extrusion: the loss caused by the small bend of the fiber when it is squeezed.
Impurities:Impurities in the fiber absorb and scatter the light propagating in the fiber, resulting in loss.
Uneven:The loss caused by uneven refractive index of the fiber material.
Butt splice: fiber butt loss, such as: different axis (single-mode fiber coaxiality requirements less than, 0.8um), end face and axis is not perpendicular, end face is not flat, butt heart diameter mismatch and poor fusion quality, etc.
