YouFibre is the UK's national FTTH broadband provider. The company's rapidly growing customer base in the North East of England led it to upgrade its network capacity from 100G to 400G.
After comparing multiple solutions, Smartoptics passive multiplexers paired with DCP-F amplifiers and 400G optics were selected. These new network elements can be plugged directly into YouFibre's existing routers for a simple, efficient solution.
Smartoptics helped us realize that we could simply merge the fiber and router layers by plugging the fiber directly into our existing routers and utilizing the available QSFP-DD ports," said Sam Defriez, Director of Networking at YouFibre. This was more cost effective and easier to deploy than the traditional WDM equipment we were considering. The solution is easily scalable and allows us to handle further bandwidth surges in other parts of the network, which is critical to support our continued rapid growth in the UK."
Magnus Grenfeldt, CEO of Smartoptics, added: "We see the YouFibre deployment as a good example of how plugging optics directly into routers is a flexible and cost-effective option. IP-over-DWDM is becoming increasingly popular and we see great growth potential in this area."
