TXO, a leading provider of hardware and asset management services for telecommunications networks, announced a variety of Fiber-to-the-X (FTTx) street enclosures to help service providers avoid supply chain challenges.
These enclosures offer a 10- to 12-year lifecycle and can be delivered in eight weeks, which is significantly less than the current year-long supply chain delivery time.
This is in response to the drive to accelerate connectivity deployment. The UK government is targeting 85 percent market penetration of gigabit broadband (FTTx) by 2025. Street cabinets can distribute fiber from the street to the home or business, but supply chain issues are impacting this. As part of its circular economy model, TXO plans to use refurbished equipment to service street cabinets.
"The lack of fibre cabinets is a growing problem in the UK, affecting many businesses and consumers," said TXO Group CEO Darren Pearce. "While rising demand for fibre means operators need more kerbside cabinets, the supply chain crisis is creating serious bottlenecks and pushing up prices.
"By using refurbished parts for our street cabinets, operators can reap the benefits of a circular economy, such as reducing carbon emissions, minimising waste and cutting costs."
This focus on the circular economy and broader sustainability is generating growth for TXO. Kieran Crawford, group sales director, told Fiber Systems: "There are three factors driving our business at the moment: sustainable practices, which we have been promoting since 2005; supply chain challenges and costs.
"Shortages are driving a lot of behavioural change and procurement is becoming smarter about planning ahead. the OEM is the second largest user of used products internationally and we are now seeing more awareness of this.
"The circular economy will accelerate and with alt-net, which is obviously smaller and more flexible, there is a real shift in awareness."
