Telecommunications service provider C&W Networks said it is using Ciena's GeoMesh Extreme product to upgrade its CFX-1 (Columbia-Florida Express) and EWC (East-West Cable) submarine cable networks to provide advanced broadband and IP services up to 400Gb/s.
These network upgrades will help meet the growing bandwidth needs of C&W Networks' telecommunications and Internet Service Provider (ISP) customers.
C&W Networks operates the largest submarine multi-loop fiber network in the Greater Caribbean, Central America and the Andean region, providing connectivity to approximately 40 countries. 2,400 kilometers of CFX-1 Express connects the United States, Jamaica and Colombia with less than 25 milliseconds of latency, while 1,700 kilometers of EWC cable connects the British Virgin Islands, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.
Ciena's GeoMesh Extreme uses a 6500 packet optics platform powered by WaveLogic 5 Extreme coherent optics to deliver new and greater capacity to the C&W network at scalable service speeds over the existing submarine system.
Using Ciena's latest technology, the CFX-1 cable connecting the U.S. to Colombia and Jamaica is described as "retrofitted to deliver a tenfold capacity increase of more than 32Tb/s at 100Gb/s-400Gb/s service.
Visibility and end-to-end management of the cable network is made possible through Ciena's Management, Control and Planning (MCP) domain controller. Ciena Services provides deployment and reconfiguration services to accelerate time to revenue and ensure project success, the company added.
