The partners of the South East Asia Hainan-Hong Kong High Speed Cable System (SEA-H2X) cable project reaffirmed their partnership in building and operating the system and said it aims to be ready for service in 2024.
China Mobile International Limited, China Unicom Global, Converge Information and Communications Technology Solutions and PPTEL SEA H2X are partnering to build and operate SEA-H2X, a cable system connecting Hong Kong SAR of China, Hainan of China, the Philippines, Thailand East Malaysia and Singapore, with options to expand to Vietnam, Cambodia, West Malaysia and Indonesia. HMN Technologies, a provider of turnkey submarine network solutions, has been appointed to undertake the design, manufacture and deployment of the system in a fully funded project that the partners say will significantly enhance intra-Asia connectivity.
SEA-H2X uses an open system model that provides the flexibility to select best-in-class submarine line termination equipment from third-party vendors at a later date. HMN Tech's advanced branch units (BUs) and reconfigurable optical splitter multiplexers (ROADMs) will benefit SEA-H2X by providing the flexibility to switch power and fiber across multiple locations.
The SEA-H2X cable is approximately 5,000 kilometers long and consists of at least eight fiber pairs connecting Hong Kong SAR and Singapore, with a design capacity of 160 terabits per second to meet the region's growing bandwidth needs.
