RETN Launches New Polish-German Fiber Route

International network service provider RETN has announced the opening of a new fiber optic route connecting Berlin, Germany, with Poznan and Warsaw, Poland.
RETN says that the existing route between Germany and Poland is one of its busiest, connecting the core of its Western and Eastern European network. The new 780-kilometer route is therefore described as an important addition to the company's Central and Eastern European network, providing a unique additional diversification route and a significant increase in capacity between Germany and Poland.
Using dark fiber laid alongside gas and oil infrastructure, the new route provides additional security and protection and is described as having near-perfect historical availability on most sections. The configuration allows for low latency service between Berlin and the rest of northern Germany as well as Warsaw. In addition, the additional metro fiber in Poznan allows customers to mix existing and new routes for optimal diversity.
Since the entire European DWDM (dense wavelength division multiplexing) network is based on the next-generation FlexILS Infinera line system, RETN says this new route has been implemented using the same technology, ensuring what it describes as high quality and record service delivery.
RETN says the project fits well with its strategy to increase long-haul fiber density in the core of its European network.
