PEACE Cable Completes Med Section And Performs Upgrades

Mar 30, 2022

PEACE Cable International Network Co, Ltd, a leading telecommunications service provider and global submarine cable operator, jointly announces the completion of the Mediterranean portion of the PEACE cable system, PEACE-MED.

PEACE-MED is a 3,200 km submarine cable connecting Egypt and France with additional landing points in Cyprus and Malta.   The landing in Marseille, France, provided by Orange, helped form PEACE-MED's open cable system, which is now fully operational and ready to provide a wide range of telecommunications and data services to customers.

PEACE's main trunk lines are in France, Egypt, Kenya and Pakistan.   The system also has plans to extend its cables to Singapore and South Africa.

PEACE-MED's cable landings in Cyprus, Abtalat, Marseille and Malta are all scheduled to be completed during 2021, while branch units are reserved for direct landing points in other countries, thus providing additional access options and opportunities throughout the Mediterranean region.

Meanwhile, Infinera and PCCW Global, a global provider of open optical networking solutions, announced the completion of a major deployment of the PEACE cable system between Marseille, Cyprus and Abtalat.

By leveraging Infinera's ICE technology on the GX Series compact modular platform, PCCW Global is able to achieve individual wavelength speeds of 650 Gbs, enabling greater capacity with less hardware and delivering up to 25 TB per fiber pair.   The combination will enable network operators to efficiently deliver high-capacity services between the Middle East and Mediterranean regions.

PCCW Global's capacity upgrade to the PEACE cable system is one of a series of upgrades planned for this year.
