Fixed communications services revenues in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region will grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 1.7 percent to reach $406.2 billion in 2026, supported by growing adoption of fixed broadband services.
Growth in the APAC fixed broadband market will be led by the fiber optic broadband segment, which will continue to grow. By 2026, fiber-optic access lines will account for about 61 percent of total fixed access lines in developed Asia Pacific, while its share of total fixed lines in emerging Asia Pacific markets will be a relatively high 80 percent.
Growing operator demand for high-speed Internet services and competitively priced fiber broadband plans with benefits such as unlimited Internet and access to major SVoD platforms will drive the adoption of fiber broadband services in the region.
APAC is a moderately developed region in terms of fixed broadband adoption, with 18 percent fixed broadband subscriber penetration by the end of 2021.
GlobalData's APAC Fixed Communications Forecast Package shows that fixed broadband account penetration is expected to reach 21 percent by 2026, driven primarily by broadband network expansion and service adoption in emerging countries such as India, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand, where governments are injecting investment into fixed broadband network infrastructure development programs.
China leads the market for fixed broadband services across Asia Pacific, with 98 percent of its broadband subscribers on fiber lines by the end of 2021. The government's Coordinated Development Action Plan for Dual Gigabit Networks (2021-2023) aims to expand fiber networks to more than 200 million homes by the end of 2023.
