e&'s telecom pillar Emirates Telecom (formerly Etisalat Group) announced the successful deployment and testing of mobile network slicing over 5G in partnership with Huawei.
Network slicing is a logically separated, self-contained, independent and secure part of the network, targeting different services with different requirements for speed, latency and reliability. Slicing the existing network to ensure dedicated bandwidth for selected applications or processes means that network slices can be dedicated to a single enterprise customer or shared by multiple tenants.
As Doublefa pointed out, the sliced architecture is more advanced in 5G private networks, allowing for fast go-live and flexible resource isolation to accommodate different types of enterprise needs, with both operators and customers benefiting from the control and efficiency of the technology.
Etisalat UAE said that with its 5G network slicing technology, it will be able to meet the growing connectivity requirements with guaranteed service levels, thus adding value to the end-user experience.
Huawei is supporting Emirates by providing an end-to-end convergence approach that enables simplicity and controls operational expenses through new and innovative applications and use cases.
In addition, Huawei offers 5G core solutions, including a series of packet core network cloud products that provide integrated capabilities from hardware to application software.
However, the actual commercialization of slicing, while highly desirable from the perspective of many operators, may still have some way to go.
