Altice USA revealed that it now has more than 100,000 Optimum Fiber subscribers, an increase of 19,000 from 81,000 fiber subscribers in the first quarter. The company is now halfway to its goal of reaching 200,000 fiber subscribers by the end of 2022. The fiber network is available to more than 1.3 million homes and businesses and is expected to expand its fiber coverage to 6.5 million locations by the end of 2025, or two-thirds of its total coverage area.
Altice is in a fierce battle with Verizon because much of its territory overlaps with that of Verizon Fios. The company launched a new symmetrical 2-gig service in May to match its rival's top offerings, priced at $120 a month. It also launched a five-serving offering priced at $180 per month.
Both of these new service tiers will be available for a short time only primarily to subscribers in specific areas of Long Island. The company's remaining tri-state operations in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut are expected to follow suit, and by the end of the year, Altice says the higher tier of service will reach 2.5 million to 3 million locations.
Altice touts the benefits of its fiber optic service, noting that customers like the symmetrical speed and reliability of fiber. It also recently increased the price of fiber Internet service for new customers by $10 per month. The price increase applies to promotional pricing for new customers only and does not apply to existing customers.
