Digital Technology in Fiber Optic Distribution Systems

Mar 18, 2022

For indoor DAS coverage, RF-over-fiber offers an excellent solution due to the abundance of fiber resources in modern buildings.

Digital fiber distribution system is a novel solution to extend the RF part of the base station to serve multiple frequency bands through digital processing, digital fiber transmission and software radio technology. Multi-system convergence and unified network coverage solve the problems of difficult and high cost/low return of macro station construction, enhance user experience and reduce network construction cost (CAPEX).

Meanwhile, through wireless remote monitoring and management, it greatly reduces the operation cost (OPEX) and improves the network signal quality. Currently, it is mainly applied to tunnels, urban villages, basements and other similar scenarios to enhance wireless network coverage.

Prevail Technology has recently developed 5G+4G digital hybrid fiber repeater to solve this RF-over-fiber scenario. In particular, the repeater integrates 5G signals with MIMO repeater download speeds of up to 600Mbps+, allowing DAS to meet services with high data demand such as YouTube, video calling, TikTok, AI, VR, and remote surgery. The remote cascade networking mode is also enabled in the digital technology, which can theoretically have up to six layers. As a result, DAS coverage provides a wider and more efficient service for consumers.
