Rural fibre company County Broadband is to increase its workforce to 270 by the end of the year to boost its network of 500,000 premises in the East of England over the next five years.
County Broadband earlier received a huge £100 million investment and a £46 million cash injection in 2018 - both from Ingenious. The company says this will drive 100 new jobs and its plans for fibre infrastructure expansion in the East of England.
The job vacancies include network operations, design, build, IT, customer service and community engagement, which will add to its current workforce of 170, with plans to recruit apprentices locally. The company says it will roll out FTTP infrastructure in more than 220 villages in Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.
This is another important milestone for County Broadband as we continue to grow our team to build and deliver the future-proof broadband services that are so desperately needed in the East of England," said Lloyd Felton, founder and CEO of County Broadband. " "As a community provider, we are fully committed to supporting local villages and towns, creating jobs in the region and investing in the future of local people. We are always looking for enthusiastic people to join us at this exciting time."
There is currently a significant amount of construction and investment taking place in the UK fibre sector, both from major players such as Openreach and from location specific platers such as County Broadband. As is the case with modern corporate messaging, fiber deployments and technology deployments in general are sometimes almost described as some kind of altruistic community project, where there is something about a company's "long-term commitment to the digital future of the region.
But it's fair to say that no marketing department selling any product will be quick to proudly announce that "our plan is to capitalize on the regional markets where we see demand for our products and profit from them.
