CityFibre Network Has Exceeded 2 Million Homes

Sep 21, 2022

Fibreco CityFibre says its network has now passed 2 million homes, or 25 percent of its ultimate goal of 8 million.

Of the 2 million homes passed so far, about 1.8 million are "ready for service," meaning residents can place orders. Once the full rollout to 8 million homes is complete, CityFibre says it will "address" about a third of the available UK market.

The network started in 2018 and reached the 1 million home milestone three years later. In the past 12 months, another 1 million homes have been phased out in 75 metropolitan areas. Earlier, CityFibre secured a debt package of up to £4.9 billion to fund its rollout, which targets 800,000 businesses, 400,000 public sector sites and 250,000 5G access points.

As the second largest fibre network in the UK, we are delighted to now be able to deliver the nation's fastest and most reliable broadband service to 2 million homes and, as a true digital infrastructure challenger in the US, we are determined to keep raising the bar with better products, better services and better economics," said CityFibre's Chief Executive Officer. This will not only benefit our customers and their customers, but will also help unlock innovation and economic growth across the UK."

CityFibre has recently given its brand a new coat of paint as it looks to differentiate itself from its competitors, as evidenced by its continued assertion that there is confusion in the broadband market about what constitutes "full fibre". Its position is that consumers don't know the difference between the full-fiber and partial-fiber broadband it offers, and the relative speeds between them.

"The updated brand assets are designed to help dispel this confusion and explain the superior user experience when connecting to the CityFibre network, which is enabled by the new pure fiber infrastructure platform, independent of the old network or system," the network operator said.

The rebrand coincides with the launch of a direct engagement campaign that targets 2.5 million homes and businesses each month with direct mail, letter drops, digital advertising and email marketing designed to encourage broadband customers to switch to services offered by retail partners such as Vodafone.
