From January to November, China's telecom industry generated total revenues of more than 1.35 trillion yuan ($212 billion), up a robust 8.1 percent year-on-year.
China's three telecom giants - China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom - have more than 1.64 billion cell phone subscribers, with a net increase of 47.92 million subscribers at the end of November compared with the end of the previous year, according to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
The number of 5G mobile subscribers reached 497 million, up 298 million from the end of last year, according to the ministry.
Chinese official media reported that the number of fixed broadband Internet subscribers at the three major telecom companies was also growing steadily, with 51.85 million more subscribers than at the end of last year to reach 535 million by the end of November.
Meanwhile, a ResearchAndMarkets.com report says China's telecoms sector has remained stable thanks to the defensive nature of the industry, thanks to political uncertainty and an uncertain economic outlook due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mobile subscriptions and fixed broadband subscribers are expected to continue to drive growth in the telecom industry during the 2022-27 period. More than 380 million people have become Internet users in the past seven years, and by 2027, another 380 million Internet users will be online in the next six years.
