Telecom Egypt (TE) has signed an agreement with AFR-IX Telecom for the construction of a landing station for the Medusa submarine cable system in Egypt. AFR-IX Telecom is a Spain-based internet service provider offering internet and data services to enterprises, international carriers and telecoms operators in Africa, as well as connectivity solutions for hundreds of customers. solutions.
The Medusa submarine cable system has a length of 8,760 kilometres. It consists of 24 pairs of fibres, each with a capacity of 20 terabits per second, and is designed to connect the countries of the Mediterranean through 16 landing points that pass through several countries, including Spain, Algeria, France, Tunisia, Italy, Greece and Egypt.
Medusa is a new generation of submarine cables, following the Open Cable standard. As such, the project aims to address the current challenges of submarine connectivity, which include creating new routes to diversify data traffic and ease congestion, gaining capacity through more fibres per cable, and facilitating open access to all European landing sites.
