As previously reported by TeleGeography's CommsUpdate, Open German Fiber was formed in late 2022 by MEAG (40% ownership), AVWL (40%) and Primevest CP (20%). The joint venture, which operates as a wholesale company and alongside major ISPs, is deploying local fiber networks in underserved areas of Germany. For the initial area, the trio has jointly selected areas that will provide full fiber connectivity to at least 150,000 homes. These areas are located in Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia, where ISP novanetz and YplaY will be responsible for marketing the fiber optic network to customers.
