O2 Slovakia has expanded its pilot fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network to six additional cities, according to the report. The operator, owned by a Czech company, is currently testing gigabit services in Trnava, Nitra, Zilina, Presov, Trencin and Kosice. O2 launched FTTH pilot services in Bratislava and Banská Bystrica in November 2022, using infrastructure leased from Slovak Telekom.
The expansion of the pilot FTTH network is part of O2's plan to bring high-speed Internet services to more customers in Slovakia. The company provides home connectivity in areas beyond its fiber coverage through its 4G network and TD-LTE fixed wireless system. The fixed wireless system is available in approximately 350 cities, enabling more customers to access high-speed Internet services.
O2's pilot FTTH network in Slovakia is part of a broader trend of telecom operators investing in fiber-optic networks to deliver faster and more reliable Internet services to their customers. FTTH networks offer faster speeds and lower latency than traditional copper or coaxial cable networks.
