Arelion (formerly Telia Carrier) has completed the expansion of his backbone route in Norway. The additional fiber routes are bringing new resilience, capacity and diversity to the connections between Norway and the rest of the world through mainland Europe.
Arelion was awarded a contract by the Norwegian Communications Authority in July 2020 to build a new underground Internet route for Norway with the goal of providing greater resilience in the event of a serious event affecting connectivity and ensuring that future connectivity can meet the needs of the region. The 750-kilometer fiber-optic route runs from Oslo, Norway, to Esbjerg, Denmark, where it joins the broader Arelion pan-European network. It also includes two new PoP (Point of Presence) locations, at Bulk Fibre Networks' OS-IX DC in Oslo and Bulk Fibre Networks' N01 DC in Kristiansand.
Services offered over the new route via Arelion include IP, Wavelength and Ethernet offerings. A portion of the new route uses the HAVSIL submarine cable built by Bulk Fiber Networks.
This new secure route for electronic communications, awarded to Arelion, will help Norway meet its growing and diverse traffic needs for Europe and provide greater connectivity security for our country in the event of a serious incident.
