U.S. rural service provider Nextlink is investing in network expansion to include Texas, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Wyoming and Louisiana in its operations.
It is also expanding into underserved and under-served areas in Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Illinois, Iowa and South Dakota.
The company selected XGS-PON technology for the work, allowing deployment of 10G broadband speeds and a simple 25G path. Nokia's ONT Easy Start SaaS was also utilized to accelerate and simplify service delivery to customer homes, and combined with wifi beacon residential gateways to power outdoor optical network terminals (ONTs) on CAT5/6, POE+ eliminates the need for local power.
Our mission is to connect rural America with quality services," said Bill Baker, CEO of Nextlink. Nokia's technology and systems help us do just that, and the communities Nextlink serves can rest assured that their communications networks are ready for today and for generations to come."
Sandy Motley, President of Nokia Fixed Networks, added: "It is a pleasure to develop a partnership with Nextlink, which is deploying a unique system capable of transporting GPON, XGS-PON and 25G PON over a common fiber infrastructure without the need for hardware replacement. In addition, Nextlink will provide Nokia's world-class managed WiFi solution to ensure its customers get the ultimate broadband experience anywhere in their homes."
