Matrix NAP Info, a Jakarta-based telecommunications company with operations in cable, data centres, cloud and Matrix Cable Internet Exchange, has announced an agreement with PT Communication Cable Systems Indonesia (CCSI) to establish a joint venture for submarine cables.
The company, called PT Varuna Cahaya Santosa, is a joint venture to develop the high-capacity Varuna Cable System (VCS). The submarine cable will connect the islands of Java, Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa, Labuan Bajo, Sulawesi, Kalimantan, Bawian and Madura and return to Java in a loop network with a total cable length of over 3,400 kilometres.
The partners have also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Mitsui for Mitsui's equity participation in VCS. VCS stakeholders believe that the development of an expanded telecommunications network beyond Java requires the construction of a backbone of submarine fibre optic cables connecting the entire island of Indonesia.
In this collaboration, Matrix NAP Info will provide support expertise for the operation and construction of the submarine cable, while CCSI will be responsible for the procurement and deployment of the contract as well as operations and maintenance. The construction of the network is expected to be completed within 24 months.
