Multinet, TIP Build 3.2Tb/s Open Optical Transport Network in Pakistan

Pakistani provider Multinet is upgrading its optical transport network covering more than 14,000 km in more than 120 cities across the country.


This remote network infrastructure deployment significantly expands capacity, upgrading the network to 3.2Tb/s capacity using the Telecom Infrastructure Project (TIP) open optical framework, which is designed to provide better global connectivity. The network upgrade will not only enable Multinet to bring agility and ultra-scalability to Pakistan's growing bandwidth needs, but will also add more towns to Multinet's fiber network.


The mission of TIP's Open Optical and Packet Transport Initiative is to create open and disaggregated technologies, architectures and interfaces for dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) and IP networks. Multinet's long-haul network infrastructure deployment utilizes software and hardware from TIP's open optics ecosystem and industry leaders including Yuden Technology, IP Infusion and Smartoptics, as well as local systems integrator Starcom Technologies (Pvt) of Pakistan. Multinet's upgrades include Cassini, TIP's disaggregated coherent switch and open packet forwarder built by Yuden Technology, and IP Infusion's OcNOS, a full-featured network operating system for white-box disaggregated networking solutions that provides a scalable transition from legacy networks to open and agile networks.
