The dedicated open cable landing station (CLS) in Mazzara del Vallo, Sicily, Italy will enhance the company's current landing and backhaul capabilities.
EXA's investment in the area is in line with the industry's anticipated demand for submarine cables. According to TeleGeography's 2022 Submarine Cable Map, continued expansion of submarine cable activity is expected to exceed $10 billion from 2022 to 2024, with new cable investments planned.
The new CLS will consolidate existing smaller landings in Mazara, creating a scalable, high-tech environmentally sustainable facility in a key location for data transmission in Europe. EXA continues to invest in developing its network to provide its customers with the most diverse service path to serve the growth of submarine cables from Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
As part of our ongoing network investments, we are confident that we can add real value to our customer base by increasing our existing capacity in the Mazara del Vallo area," said Ciaran Delaney, Chief Operating Officer of EXA Infrastructure. Mazara is a very strategic landing site in terms of diversity with other major landing sites, and we are ready to meet new traffic demands as we continue to move forward as the undisputed leader in the data center to data center industry. The commitment to invest in this new building in Sicily will provide an economically attractive, sustainable and scalable option for the region, further demonstrating EXA's mission of growth."
Steve Roberts, Vice President of Network Investments at EXA Infrastructure, added, "Mazara continues to represent a strategic entry point into Italy and Europe, and its excellent maritime conditions make it attractive to cable operators in North Africa, the Mediterranean and the Middle East. This planned investment reinforces EXA's position as the leading supplier of cable landing facilities at Mazara, enabling the highest levels of efficiency and availability of existing and future cable systems."
