E-Networks has hired Mavenir to deploy Guyana's first 5G VoLTE network.
The new network will be a $35 million investment and will allow users to make high-definition, secure voice calls. A commercial launch is planned for later this year. Mobile services will be provided over a large coverage area built on the E-Networks fiber optic backbone, the largest fiber optic backbone in Guyana.
The deployment of the 5G VoLTE network is an important milestone for Guyana, as the country's telecommunications sector was recently liberalized, ending a 30-year monopoly. E-Networks partnered with Mavenir to deliver the cloud-native IMS and Business Support System (BSS) platform.
"We set out to build a modern, well-tested network that would take Guyana's cellular services to a new level - and we are excited to do that," E-Networks CEO Vishok Persaud said. "The network builds on our success in the fixed wireless and fiber markets, such as our best-in-class service, which is currently the fastest Internet service in Guyana."
4G and 5G enabled devices will be able to access the network, which will offer local and international voice calls, SMS, 4G and 5G data, and international roaming services. E-Networks has indicated that it will announce pricing plans at launch, noting that it aims to provide affordable, high-quality mobile services.
