Cox Communications Commits To Multi-billion Dollar Network Upgrade

Feb 24, 2022

US provider Cox Communications will make billions of dollars of annual infrastructure investments over the next few years to build a 10 Gb fibre network.

Expanded FTTP and enhancements to cable broadband DOCSIS 4.0 technology will help Cox deliver multi-gigabit symmetrical speeds to residential and commercial customers in the coming years.

To date, Cox has invested more than $19 billion in network and product upgrades as part of its efforts to "bridge the digital divide". The latest funding will build on this, including the expansion of its footprint over the next three years to reach more than 100,000 homes in underserved and rural communities near the provider's current footprint.

In addition, the company plans to reach more underserved communities by partnering with local towns that want to take advantage of federal funding opportunities to address specific community goals and help bridge the digital divide. Cox will also continue to work with local leaders to drive the development of smart communities, using the latest technology to create smart traffic and parking management, public safety, and smart utility management for the benefit of city operators and citizens.

Connectivity is at the heart of everything we do," said the President of Cox Communications. From virtual reality classrooms to self-driving cars to virtual worlds, with new applications of technology, people will need increased bandwidth to power their digital futures. This investment includes our commitment to provide a robust and reliable service to underserved communities and to be the Internet provider our customers rely on to make these valuable connections a reality.
