Global carrier Arelion deployed a new high-capacity line from Reston, Virginia, straight down the East Coast, connecting directly to the Telxius cable landing in Virginia Beach, then continuing to Arelion's new access point (PoP) in northern Raleigh Carolina, then connecting to Charlotte, North Carolina, and continuing south into Florida Jacksonville and Miami.
This route is designed to allow Arelion's network to better serve the technology and data center markets in the Research Triangle. On the technology side, it leverages an open optical circuit system supporting multi-vendor transponders and the latest coherent pluggable components to provide scalable wavelength services, including 10G, 100G and 400G, to customers in the East Coast data center and technology markets.
The new route leverages Arelion's existing metro coverage in Ashburn and Reston, Virginia, allowing for diversity of terrestrial backhaul options from Ashburn northward and from Northern Virginia. As part of the network expansion, Arelion now offers five different optical systems serving Charlotte. The new deployment also provides additional capacity and capability to support terrestrial transport of multi-terabit submarine traffic from the new submarine cable to Latin America and the Caribbean, terminating in Jacksonville and South Florida.
Arelion's new Raleigh PoP at the Flexential Data Center provides diverse direct connectivity to major subsea hubs and is designed to meet the capacity and capability needs of the region's biotech, healthcare and technology markets.
The network expansion on the U.S. East Coast is designed to meet the growing demand for diverse, high-capacity connectivity and end-to-end transatlantic solutions for our customers," said Art Kazmierczak, Arelion's director of strategic sales and network development. Arelion's new unique route continues our long-term commitment to invest in our North American network and provide resilient connectivity solutions to facilitate the growth of key digital industries in a rapidly evolving market."
The route is scheduled to go live in the third quarter of this year.
